Release time:
2020-01-09
Applicable to regular ordinary laminated glass, flat tempered and heat strengthened laminated glass, curved tempered or curved heat strengthened laminated glass, and heat bent laminated glass.
1. Scope of application:
Applicable to conventional ordinary laminated glass, flat tempered and heat strengthened laminated glass, curved tempered or curved heat strengthened laminated glass, and heat bent laminated glass.
2. PVB selection criteria
2.1 Ordinary laminated glass
Ordinary laminated glass refers to laminated glass with a substrate of annealed float glass, excluding bulletproof glass, aquarium glass, and multilayer laminated glass.
The selection of PVB thickness for ordinary laminated glass follows the provisions of the table below:
Type of glass | Substrate glass thickness (mm) | PVB film thickness (mm)
Short side ≤800mm | Short side >800mm
Ordinary laminated glass | ≤6mm | 0.38 | 0.38 |
8mm | 0.38 | 0.76 | |
10mm | 0.76 | 0.76 | |
12mm | 1.14 | 1.14 | |
15mm, 19mm | 1.52 | 1.52 |
Note: 1) The selection of substrate glass thickness is based on the thickness of the thicker piece in the laminated glass, and the surface quality of the substrate must meet the corresponding float glass standards.
2) Bulletproof glass must be inspected and recorded by the public security department, and its PVB thickness must follow the standard type without changes.
3) Aquarium glass and multilayer laminated glass require specific analysis and scientific calculation to determine PVB film thickness due to their stress conditions and complex structures, which will not be detailed here.
2.2 Flat tempered and heat strengthened laminated glass
Tempered or heat strengthened laminated products, due to the inevitable glass wave and bow deformation during the tempering process, will have gaps between the glass filled by the PVB film.
The deformation is regulated by national laminated standards not to exceed 3‰.
The selection of PVB thickness for flat tempered and heat strengthened laminated glass follows the provisions of the table below:
Type of laminated glass | Substrate glass thickness (mm) | PVB film thickness (mm)
Short side ≤800mm | Short side 800mm ≤1500mm | Short side >1500mm
Flat tempered, heat strengthened laminated glass | ≤6mm | 0.76 | 1.14 | 1.52 |
8~12mm | 1.14 | 1.52 | 1.52 | |
≥15mm | 1.52 | 2.88 | 2.88 |
Note: 1) To ensure that the glass does not experience edge delamination or bubbles during the warranty period, and to guarantee the safety performance of the glass, avoiding safety hazards and future losses, the selection of PVB film should be strict.
2) For flat tempered and heat strengthened laminated glass, if the thickness difference between the two pieces of glass exceeds 3mm, due to unreasonable stress structure, this structure is not recommended. If insisted on using, the PVB thickness must be increased by 0.38mm based on the corresponding regulations.
3) For single tempered or heat strengthened laminated glass, due to the unstable factors of thermal explosion and unreasonable stress structure, this structure is not recommended. If insisted on using, the PVB thickness must be increased by 0.38mm based on the corresponding regulations, and no responsibility will be taken for the breakage of non-tempered or heat strengthened glass.
4) For shaped tempered and heat strengthened laminated glass, due to significant deformation at the edges of the shaped glass, the PVB thickness must be increased by 0.38mm based on the corresponding regulations.
5) For flat tempered and heat strengthened laminated glass, when both the high edge and wide edge of the glass are greater than 800mm, and the ratio is close to 1, due to the difficulty in controlling the glass wave during tempering or heat strengthening, significant deformation will occur, and the PVB thickness must be increased by 0.38mm based on the corresponding regulations.
6) The selection of substrate glass thickness is based on the thickness of the thicker piece in the laminated glass.
2.3 Curved tempered, heat strengthened laminated glass and heat bent laminated glass
Curved tempered laminated glass is increasingly used in construction due to its unique structural form and good safety performance, but it also brings many problems. Many curved tempered laminated glasses show edge delamination and bubbles shortly after project completion, causing significant losses for manufacturers and owners.
Curved tempered and heat strengthened laminated glass has inherent curvature, and the curvature error and tempering deformation determine that the thickness of the intermediate PVB film must be thicker than that of ordinary laminated glass, with a minimum thickness of 2.28mm.
The selection of PVB for curved tempered, heat strengthened laminated glass and heat bent laminated glass follows the provisions of the table below:
Type of laminated glass | Substrate glass thickness (mm) | PVB film thickness (mm)
Curvature radius R >3m | Curvature radius R ≤3m
Heat tempered, heat strengthened laminated glass | ≤8mm | 2.28 | 3.04 |
≥10mm | 3.04 | 3.04 | |
Heat bent glass | ≤6mm | 0.76 | 1.14~1.52 |
≥8mm | 1.14 | 1.52 |
